The friendship between Kinsmen, Kinettes, and Canadians with cystic fibrosis (CF) started back in 1963 when Dr. Douglas Crozier had a heartfelt conversation with Kinsman Bill Skelly about the challenges faced by children with CF. This talk inspired Bill, and soon after, the North York Kinsmen Club threw their support behind what’s now known as Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Ian F. McClure played a huge role, organizing the first Kin fundraiser for CF. He and Bill pushed to make CF a project for all of District 8, which happened in 1964. Soon, the idea spread, with Kinsmen leaders Jack Delany and Jim Poulos dreaming of making CF a national cause. Ian took on this mission, traveling across Canada to rally support. Thanks to the passion of Kin members, CF became a National Service Project in 1987.

Since then, Kin members have raised over $52 million to support CF research and patient care, helping extend the lives of those with CF. When this journey began, most children with CF didn’t live past primary school. Today, half of all Canadians with CF are expected to live into their 50s and beyond—thanks in no small part to the dedication of the Kinsmen and Kinettes.

Thank you, Kin Canada, for being such incredible partners in the fight against CF!
